Seventh-ranked Guangdong Dolphins (6-8) used its home court advantage to challenge second ranked Shanghai Octopus (12-2) in Guangzhou. The visitors from Shanghai managed to secure only one-point victory 79-78. However their fans expected much easier game. Guangdong Dolphins were ahead by 8 points at the halftime before a 29-15 third quarter run of Shanghai Octopus. They dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Guangdong Dolphins' 36. American center Sylvia Fowles (198-85, college: LSU) had a double-double by scoring 23 points and 12 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and international forward Jing Huang (183-85) chipped in 14 points and 13 rebounds during the contest. Four Shanghai Octopus players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was forward Lin Zhu (180-88) with 19 points and 4 assists and forward Dongxia Zhang (183-90) scored 19 points. Shanghai Octopus used an opportunity after Beijing lost their game and moved up joining them at the top position. Guangdong Dolphins lost sixth consecutive game. They keep the seventh place with eight games lost. Shanghai Octopus will play against Shanxi Rui Flame (#3) in Taiyuan in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Guangdong Dolphins will play on the road against Jiangsu Phoenix (#4) in Yixing and hope to get back on the winning track.
