Regular Season Round 10: Breakers - Wildcats 77-66

The game had a very big importance for second-ranked New Zealand Breakers as it allowed them to take a leadership position. New Zealand Breakers defeated one of their biggest challengers Perth Wildcats in Auckland 77-66. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The hosts trailed by 12 points at the halftime before their 45-22 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. New Zealand Breakers looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. American guard Cedric Jackson (191-86, college: Cleveland St.) scored 15 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists to lead the charge for the winners and Nigerian-American power forward Ekenechukwu Ibekwe (206-85, college: Maryland) chipped in 18 points (perfect from the field making all eight shots !!!) during the contest. Four New Zealand Breakers players scored in double figures. At the losing side American forward DeAndre Daniels (206-92, college: Connecticut) responded with 16 points and 9 rebounds and the former international forward Shawn Redhage (203-81, college: Arizona St., agency: Warren Sports International) scored 19 points. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. As mentioned above they are alone now at the top position. Defending champion Perth Wildcats dropped to the second place with four games lost. They share the position with Taipans. Perth Wildcats will play next round against Kings trying to get back on the winning streak. New Zealand Breakers will try to continue on its current victory against third ranked Cairns Taipans on the road.
