Regular Season Round 10: Fjolnir - Grindavik 91-97

Everything could happen in Reykjavik at the game between two tied teams. Both tenth ranked Grindavik and 9th ranked Fjolnir had identical 2-7 record. But Fjolnir was not able to use a home court advantage and was defeated by the opponent from Grindavik 97-91 on Friday night. Fjolnir trailed by 16 points after 3 quarters before a 26-16 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 91-97 at the end of the game. Grindavik made 23-of-27 free shots (85.2 percent) during the game. It was a very good performance for the former international guard Magnus Gunnarsson (186-81) who helped to win the game recording 23 points and 6 assists. International guard Olafur Olafsson (194-90) contributed with 18 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Guard Arnthor Gudmundsson (187-91, agency: Dynamics Global Management) replied with 16 points and 7 rebounds and American forward Da'Ron Sims (195-87, college: W.Georgia) added 16 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Fjolnir. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Fjolnir's coach Hjalti Vilhjalmsson rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Grindavik (3-7) moved-up to ninth place. Newly promoted Fjolnir dropped to the tenth position with eight games lost. Grindavik will face higher ranked Snaefell (#8) in Stykkisholmur in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Fjolnir's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Reykjavik to the arena KR.
