Sixteenth-ranked Gipuzkoa (3-8) gave a tough game to fifth ranked FIATC Joventut (8-3) in San Sebastian. The visitors from Badalona managed to secure only three-point victory 66-63. However their fans expected much easier game. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Gipuzkoa won third quarter 13-11. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening, at least not yet. The game turned upside-down in the last quarter, where Gipuzkoa used huge pressure winning it 17-7 getting a tie at the end of regular time. They lost eventually overtime period 3-6. Bosnian-Croatian center Goran Suton (208-85, college: Michigan St.) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 16 rebounds. American guard Demond Mallet (184-78, college: McNeese St., agency: Higher Vision Sports) contributed with 15 points for the winners. Center David Doblas (206-81) answered with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 10 rebounds and American guard Taquan Dean (193-83, college: Louisville, agency: Two Points) added 19 points in the effort for Gipuzkoa. Four Gipuzkoa players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for FIATC Joventut. They moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Bilbao Basket. Gipuzkoa at the other side dropped to the thirteenth position with eight games lost. FIATC Joventut's next round opponent will be Bilbao Basket (#4) at home. Gipuzkoa will play against CB Canarias (#12) in Tenerife and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
