The game in Gomel supposed to be also quite interesting. Third ranked Olimpia GrGAU (7-2) played at the court of 5th ranked Sozh-GGU (2-6). Olimpia GrGAU smashed Sozh-GGU 104-65 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Olimpia GrGAU. Sozh-GGU managed to win second period 24-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Olimpia GrGAU dominated down low during the game scoring 70 of its points in the paint compared to Sozh-GGU's 32. They outrebounded Sozh-GGU 56-35 including a 42-27 advantage in defensive rebounds. Olimpia GrGAU looked well-organized offensively handing out 29 assists comparing to just 14 passes made by Sozh-GGU's players. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Olimpia GrGAU made 14 blocks. Ukrainian center Taisiia Bovykina (190-89) had a double-double by scoring 22 points and 10 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and the former international Maryia Filonchyk (187-92) chipped in 14 points and 10 rebounds during the contest. Four Olimpia GrGAU players scored in double figures. Olimpia GrGAU's coach Aliaksandr Shimkovyak felt very confident using entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side guard Ekaterina Charikova (174-82) responded with a double-double by scoring 14 points, 11 rebounds, 8 assists and 6 steals and forward Elena Gorelikova (178-92) scored 21 points and 6 rebounds. Olimpia GrGAU have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 7-2 record having just two points less than leader Gorizont. Sozh-GGU lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the fifth place with six games lost. Olimpia GrGAU will meet at home league's leader Gorizont in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Sozh-GGU will play against Gorizont II (#8) in Minsk and hope to secure a win.
