Regular Season Round 13: Denso Iris - Niigata R. 74-47

WJBL top team - Denso Iris (10-2) had no problems winning another game on Sunday. This time they crushed tenth ranked Niigata R. (1-11) in Kariya 74-47. The game was mostly controlled by Denso Iris. Niigata R. managed to win second period 17-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Niigata R. to just 7 points in third quarter. Denso Iris dominated down low during the game scoring 44 of its points in the paint compared to Niigata R.'s 20. They outrebounded Niigata R. 41-25 including a 31-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. The former international power forward Maki Takada (183-89) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 13 rebounds (made all of her seven free throws) for the winners and international guard Shiori Takada (171-92) chipped in 17 points and 7 rebounds. At the losing side swingman Sangi Kanade (169-86) responded with 16 points and 5 rebounds and guard Kamieno Hiromi (165-93) scored 13 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Denso Iris have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain first place with 10-2 record, which they share with Fujitsu RW. Niigata R. lost eighth consecutive game. They keep the tenth position with 11 games lost. Denso Iris is looking forward to face Mitsubishi K. (#6) in Nagoya in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Niigata R. will play at home against the league's second-placed Fujitsu RW (#2) and is hoping to prove to their supporters that they can break losing series.
