Regular Season Round 12: Maccabi T-A - Ironi Nes-Ziona 118-89

The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Maccabi T-A as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Maccabi T-A smashed 3rd ranked Ironi Nes-Ziona in Tel-Aviv 118-89. The hosts trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 16-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 118-89. Maccabi T-A shot 62.7 percent from the field and made 16-of-18 free shots (88.9 percent) during the game. They shot the lights out from three sinking 18 long-distance shots on high 56.3 percentage. Maccabi T-A looked well-organized offensively handing out 32 assists. It was a good game for naturalized American swingman Sylven Landesberg (198-90, college: Virginia) who led his team to a victory with 31 points. American-Georgian guard Marquez Haynes (191-86, college: Texas Arlington) contributed with 21 points and 6 assists (perfect from the field making all seven shots !!!) for the winners. The former international point guard Meir Tapiro (192-75, agency: Avi Zilberman) replied with 20 points and 6 assists (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field) and American forward Craig Smith (201-83, college: Boston Coll.) added 16 points and 4 assists (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) in the effort for Ironi Nes-Ziona. Five Maccabi T-A and four Ironi Nes-Ziona players scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Maccabi T-A (10-2) have an impressive six-game winning streak. As mentioned above they are alone now at the top position. Ironi Nes-Ziona at the other side dropped to the fourth place with five games lost. They share the position with Hapoel T-A. Ironi Nes-Ziona will play next round against Bnei Hasharon trying to get back on the winning streak. Maccabi T-A will try to continue on its current victory against sixth ranked Hapoel Holon on the road.
