Regular Season Round 11: Flamengo - Brasilia 76-74

Thirteenth-ranked Brasilia (2-8) made lots of trouble for fourth ranked Flamengo (7-2) in Rio de Janeiro. Flamengo managed to secure only two-point victory 76-74. However their fans expected much easier game. It looked good early as Brasilia took an 2-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Flamengo had a 19-14 second period charge getting the lead and Brasilia was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 74-76. Flamengo made 19-of-24 charity shots (79.2 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Brasilia 40-22 including 16 on the offensive glass. It was an exceptional evening for the former international Marcelo Machado (201-75, agency: Interperformances) who led the winners and scored 17 points (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line). American center Jerome Meyinsse (206-88, college: Virginia) accounted for 14 points and 8 rebounds for the winning side. point guard Frederico Lima (180-80) came up with 17 points and 4 assists and center Ronald Reis (211-91) added 15 points and 7 rebounds respectively for Brasilia in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Flamengo have a solid series of four victories in a row. Defending champion moved-up to second place, which they share with Bauru. Brasilia lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the fifteenth position with eight games lost. Flamengo's next round opponent will be SKY/Basquete (#14) in Aldeota which should be an easy win for them. Brasilia will play on the road against Macae and hope to win that game.
