The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Panathinaikos as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Panathinaikos defeated 5th ranked Aris in Athens 76-69. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Aris won third quarter 16-15. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Panathinaikos made 22-of-25 free shots (88.0 percent) during the game. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international Nikos Pappas (194-90) who helped to win the game recording 23 points. Uruguayan-Spanish power forward Esteban Batista (208-83, agency: Duran International) contributed with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Cypriot-Bulgarian Aleksandar Vezenkov (206-95, college: Xavier) replied with 19 points and 6 rebounds and American swingman Lamarcus Reed (195-88, college: Texas Arlington) added 13 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for Aris. Four Aris players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Panathinaikos (9-0) have an impressive nine-game winning streak. As mentioned above they are alone now at the top position. Aris at the other side keeps the fifth place with four games lost. Aris will play next round against Aiolos Trikallon trying to get back on the winning streak. Panathinaikos will try to continue on its current victory against second ranked Olympiacos. It will be extra interesting game as Olympiacos is their local rival from Athens.
