There was a small surprise when fifth ranked Handlova (10-10) beat at home second-ranked Rieker KN (16-4) 109-91 on Wednesday. The hosts trailed by 2 points at the halftime before their 34-13 charge in the third quarter, which allowed them to win the game. Handlova dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to Rieker KN's 46 and made 22-of-28 free shots (78.6 percent) during the game. Handlova forced 20 Rieker KN turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by Rieker KN's players. The former international center Ondrej Soska (208-78) orchestrated the victory by scoring 21 points (on 10-of-12 shooting from the field). Croatian swingman Luka Drezga (196-87, agency: XL Basketball Agency) contributed with 14 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Handlova's coach used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Center Michal Maslik (209-89) replied with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 15 rebounds and Czech forward Filip Halada (198-92) added 17 points in the effort for Rieker KN. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Handlova moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Iskra Svit. Rieker KN at the other side keeps the second position with four games lost. Handlova will face Levice (#8) on the road in the next round. Rieker KN will play against Nitra (#10) and hope to win that game.
