Regular Season Round 11: Vivo/Franca - Palmeiras 80-74

Very expected game in Sao Paulo where 10th ranked Palmeiras (5-6) was defeated by sixth ranked Vivo/Franca (7-4) 80-74 on Wednesday. However just six-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 22-14. But Palmeiras won second period 19-13. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Vivo/Franca forced 22 Palmeiras turnovers. The best player for the winners was Argentinian Marcos Mata (201-86) who scored 20 points and 5 rebounds. International Leonardo Meindl (201-93) chipped in 19 points and 6 rebounds. The former international Jhonatan Luz Luz dos Santos (196-87) produced 16 points and 8 rebounds and American power forward Steven Toyloy (203-87, college: Cincinnati) added 19 points (on 9-of-10 shooting from the field) respectively for the guests. Vivo/Franca moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Minas. Loser Palmeiras keeps the tenth position with six games lost. Vivo/Franca will face Pinheiros (#9) in Sao Paolo in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Palmeiras will play on the road against the league's second-placed Paschoalotto/Bauru and hope to win that game.
