Regular Season Round 11: Kings - Wildcats 78-74

There was a minor upset in Sydney where second-ranked Perth Wildcats (10-5) were defeated by fifth ranked Kings (7-7) 78-74 on Thursday. Perth Wildcats trailed by 14 points after 3 quarters before a 23-13 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 74-78 at the end of the game. Strangely Perth Wildcats outrebounded Kings 42-27 including 30 on the defensive glass. Perth Wildcats were plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was American swingman Josh Childress (203-83, college: Stanford) who had a double-double by scoring 17 points, 10 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 blocks. The former international guard Jason Cadee (186-91) chipped in 12 points and 5 rebounds. Five Kings players scored in double figures. American guard Jermaine Beal (191-87, college: Vanderbilt) produced 16 points and Guamanian-American guard Earnest Ross (196-91, college: Missouri, agency: KMG Sports Management) added 10 points and 8 rebounds respectively for the guests. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Kings maintains fifth place with 7-7 record. Defending champion Perth Wildcats dropped to the third position with five games lost. Kings will face league's leader New Zealand Breakers in Auckland in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Perth Wildcats will play on the road against United in Melbourne and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
