Second Stage Round 9: Beijing - Shanghai 77-54

Round 9 in WCBA means a new league leader. The biggest surprise took place in Beijing where host Beijing Great Wall (14-3) crushed league's leader Shanghai Octopus (14-3) 77-54 on Thursday evening. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Shanghai Octopus. It was a key game for the top position in Places 1-8. The game without a history. Beijing Great Wall led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to Shanghai Octopus' 36. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Beijing Great Wall made 8 blocks. The best player for the winners was international power forward XiaoYu Sun (190-84) who scored 20 points and 5 rebounds. American center Brittney Griner (203-90, college: Baylor) chipped in 12 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 7 blocks. At the other side the best for losing team was international forward Jing Huang (183-85) who recorded 14 points and 8 rebounds and American center Sylvia Fowles (198-85, college: LSU) added 14 points and 6 rebounds respectively. Beijing Great Wall keeps a position of Places 1-8 leader, which they share with Shanghai. Shanghai Octopus will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest and make it back to the top of the standings. Beijing Great Wall will try to continue on its current victory against fifth ranked Bayi Kylin in Yinzhou.
