Regular Season Round 10: Hottur - Valur 97-80

D1 top team - Hottur (9-2) had no problems winning another game. This time they beat fifth ranked Valur (4-5) in Egilsstadir 97-80. The game was mostly controlled by Hottur. Valur was better in fourth quarter 31-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 26 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by Valur's players. American guard Tobin Carberry (193-91, college: LIU Post) scored 28 points, 9 rebounds and 9 assists (made all of his seven free throws) to lead the charge for the winners and forward Hreinn Birgisson (190-89) chipped in 12 points, 11 rebounds and 6 assists during the contest. Carberry is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Five Hottur players scored in double figures. At the losing side forward Illugi Audunsson (196-92) responded with 19 points and 8 rebounds and American forward Danero Thomas (193-86, college: Murray St.) scored 13 points and 6 rebounds. Valur's coach rotated ten players seeing no chance for a win. Hottur have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 9-2 record. Valur at the other side keeps the fifth place with five games lost. Hottur will play against Hamar (#3) on the road in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Valur will play against IA and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
