Regular Season Round 21: Norrkoping - Sundsvall 118-85

Round 21 in Basketligan means a new league leader. The biggest surprise took place in Norrkoping where host Norrkoping Dolphins (12-5) crushed league's leader Sundsvall Dragons (11-5) 118-85 on Friday evening. It ended at the same time the nine-game winning streak of Sundsvall Dragons. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The game without a history. Norrkoping Dolphins led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 68 of its points in the paint compared to Sundsvall Dragons' 44 and made 17-of-21 free shots (81.0 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Sundsvall Dragons 41-23 including a 29-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was the former international center Joakim Kjellbom (212-79, college: N.Arizona) who had a double-double by scoring 31 points, 15 rebounds and 4 blocks. Croatian guard Toni Prostran (181-91) chipped in a double-double by scoring 23 points, 7 rebounds and 10 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was American swingman Akeem Wright (200-84, college: Kansas St.) who recorded 24 points and Icelandic forward Hlynur Baeringsson (200-82) added 11 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists respectively. Five Norrkoping Dolphins and four Sundsvall Dragons players scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Norrkoping Dolphins keep a position of league leader. Sundsvall Dragons at the other side dropped to the third place with five games lost. They share the position with Uppsala. They were replaced at the leadership position by Norrkoping. Sundsvall Dragons will play next round against LF Basket trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Norrkoping Dolphins will try to continue on its current victory against fourth ranked Uppsala Basket on the road.
