There was an upset in Findon where 3rd placed Cairns Taipans (11-5) were defeated by seventh ranked Adelaide 36ers (5-10) 90-86 on Friday. The hosts were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. Cairns Taipans were plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was international guard Adam Gibson (188-86) who scored 17 points and 9 assists. The former international Brock Motum (207-90, college: Washington St.) chipped in a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 rebounds. Four Adelaide 36ers players scored in double figures. American forward Torrey Craig (198-90, college: USC Upstate) produced 28 points and 7 rebounds (on 12-of-14 shooting from the field) and the former international power forward Cameron Tragardh (209-83, college: ORU) added 18 points and 7 rebounds respectively for the guests. Cairns Taipans' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Adelaide 36ers moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Crocodiles. Loser Cairns Taipans dropped to the second position with five games lost. Adelaide 36ers will face Townsville Crocodiles (#7) in Wulguru in the next round. Cairns Taipans will play on the road against Wollongong Hawks (#8) in Gwynneville and hope to win that game.
