Rather predictable result when sixth ranked Vivo/Franca (8-4) won against 9th ranked Pinheiros (5-6) in Sao Paulo 81-68 on Friday. Pinheiros trailed 39-38 at halftime, rallying from a 24-10 deficit at the end of first quarter to trim the gap. Vivo/Franca forced 22 Pinheiros turnovers. The winners were led by power forward Lucas Mariano (208-93) who scored that evening 25 points and 8 rebounds (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field) and international Leonardo Meindl (201-93) supported him with 15 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Four Vivo/Franca players scored in double figures. Even 15 points and 8 rebounds by the former international forward Felipe Ribeiro (201-79) did not help to save the game for Pinheiros. American guard Jason Smith (183-83, college: Al.-Huntsville) added 14 points and 4 assists. Pinheiros' coach tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Vivo/Franca moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Minas. Pinheiros lost third consecutive game. They keep the ninth position with six games lost.
