Top ranked New Zealand Breakers (12-5) recorded its fifth loss on the court of third ranked Cairns Taipans on Sunday night. Visitors were rolled over by Cairns Taipans 83-59. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of New Zealand Breakers. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in the league. The game without a history. Cairns Taipans led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding New Zealand Breakers to just 7 points in fourth quarter. Cairns Taipans made 20-of-26 free shots (76.9 percent) during the game. They outrebounded New Zealand Breakers 44-31 including 29 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was international guard Cameron Gliddon (196-89, college: Concordia Irvine) who scored 18 points and 9 rebounds. American guard Scottie Wilbekin (188-92, college: Florida) chipped in 15 points and 4 assists. Four Cairns Taipans players scored in double figures. Fijian-New Zealand forward Mika Vukona (198-82) produced 18 points and 6 rebounds and American guard Cedric Jackson (191-86, college: Cleveland St.) added 8 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals respectively for the guests. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Cairns Taipans (11-5) moved-up to second place. New Zealand Breakers at the other side still keep top position with five games lost. Cairns Taipans are looking forward to face bottom-ranked Wollongong Hawks (#8) in Gwynneville in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game.
