Regular Season Round 8: IF Air Europa - Leganes 52-70

There was a small surprise in S'Arenal where eighth ranked Leganes (4-4) beat 5th ranked IF Air Europa (4-4) 70-52 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Leganes. IF Air Europa was better in third quarter 18-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding IF Air Europa to just 5 points in second quarter and to 12 points in first half. Leganes made 20-of-25 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game. They outrebounded IF Air Europa 36-25 including 24 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was French forward Lola De Angelis (179-93) who scored 9 points and 9 rebounds. Lucia Togores (176-96) chipped in 14 points (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line). Leganes' coach Nacho Garcia allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Power forward Maria Alzamora (182-91) produced 13 points and Lithuanian power forward Gintare Mazionyte (188-91, college: Texas) added 10 points and 6 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Leganes moved-up to fifth place, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated IF Air Europa. Leganes will face Segle XXI (#6) in Barcelona in the next round. IF Air Europa will play on the road against C.Adelantados in San Cristobal and hope to win that game.
