Regular Season Round 24: Toyama Grouses - Iwate Big Bulls 74-66

BJ League round 24 caused change at the leadership position. Fourth defeat of league's leader Iwate Big Bulls (20-4) against fourth ranked Toyama Grouses (17-7) 74-66 was the most important game of the last round. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Iwate Big Bulls won third quarter 19-18. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Iwate Big Bulls 45-30 including 20 on the offensive glass. It was a great shooting night for Toyama Grouses especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 56.3 percentage. It was a good game for Joho Masashi (183-82) who led his team to a victory with 20 points and 6 rebounds. Guard Mito Takeshi (184-85) contributed with 10 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. American forward Lawrence Blackledge (206-86, college: Marquette) replied with 16 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 blocks and his fellow American import forward Scootie Randall (198-90, college: Temple) added 15 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Iwate Big Bulls. Toyama Grouses have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to third place, which they share with Sendai 89ers. Iwate Big Bulls lost third consecutive game. They still keep top position with four games lost. They were joined at the leadership position by Kyoto Hannar. who have the same record. Iwate Big Bulls will play next round against league's leader Kyoto Hannar. trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Toyama Grouses will try to continue on its current victory against fourth ranked Osaka Evessa on the road.
