Regular Season Round 13: Hapoel J-M - Maccabi Haifa 88-90

The most exciting game of round 13 in the Winner League took place in Jerusalem. This derby game ended with only two-point home defeat of much higher ranked Hapoel Jerusalem (9-3) to ninth ranked Maccabi Haifa (5-8) 90-88 on Monday evening. It was quite big embarassment for the home team. The guests were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. Maccabi Haifa shot the lights out from three sinking 15 long-distance shots on high 71.4 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The former international Dagan Yavzuri (193-85) stepped up and scored 26 points and 6 assists for the winners and American swingman Rene Rougeau (198-86, college: UNLV) chipped in 16 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. At the losing side American-Venezuelan Donta Smith (201-83, college: SE Illinois JC) responded with 30 points, 7 rebounds and 9 assists (on 10-of-11 shooting from the field) and American guard Bracey Wright (191-84, college: Indiana) scored 16 points. Maccabi Haifa moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Galil Gilboa. Hapoel Jerusalem lost third consecutive game. They keep the second position with three games lost. Maccabi Haifa is looking forward to face higher ranked Maccabi Rishon (#3) in Rishon Le-Zion in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Hapoel Jerusalem will play on the road against Hapoel Holon and is hoping to win this game.
