Very important is a road loss of third ranked Flamengo (8-3) against thirteenth ranked Macae (4-8) on Monday night. Visiting Flamengo was edged by Macae in a tough game in Macae 84-86. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Flamengo. Flamengo was ahead by 9 points after three quarters before a 32-21 charge of Macae, which allowed them to win the game. American point guard Jamaal Smith (175-85, college: N.Mexico) nailed 26 points and 4 assists for the winning side and center Atilio de Mello (203-82) accounted for 17 points. Argentinian-Spanish forward Walter Herrmann (206-79) came up with 18 points and the former international Marcelo Machado (201-75, agency: Interperformances) added 19 points respectively for Flamengo in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Macae moved-up to eleventh place, which they share with Uberlandia and Brasilia. Defending champion Flamengo dropped to the fourth position with three games lost. Macae will play against league's leader Winner/Limeira on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Flamengo will play against Rio Claro and hopes to get back on the winning track.
