Regular Season Round 24: TianJin S. - Shanxi Zh. 100-99

A very close game took place in Tianjin between TianJin Steel and Shanxi Zhongyu. Thirteenth ranked TianJin Steel (9-15) got a very close home victory over higher ranked Shanxi Zhongyu (17-7). TianJin Steel managed to escape with a 1-point win 100-99 on Friday evening. It was quite big embarassment for the guest team. It ended at the same time the seven-game winning streak of Shanxi Zhongyu. Shanxi Zhongyu trailed by 11 points after 3 quarters before a 25-15 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 99-100 at the end of the game. TianJin Steel made 19-of-25 free shots (76.0 percent) during the game. The best player for the winners was American forward Shelden Williams (206-83, college: Duke) who had a double-double by scoring 20 points and 16 rebounds. The other American import point guard Dwight Buycks (191-89, college: Marquette) chipped in 21 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was American guard Von Wafer (196-85, college: Florida St.) who recorded 34 points (!!!), 5 rebounds and 5 assists and Jordanian forward Zaid Abbas (203-83) added 8 points and 23 rebounds respectively. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Shanxi Zhongyu's coach tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. TianJin Steel maintains thirteenth position with 9-15 record. Loser Shanxi Zhongyu dropped to the fourth place with seven games lost. They share the position with Guangsha L.. TianJin Steel will meet at home higher ranked Xinjiang Flying Tige (#7) in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Shanxi Zhongyu will play against Jiangsu TX and hope to secure a win.
