Regular Season Round 25: Jefes - Pioneros 76-82

Not a big story in a game when 6th ranked Jefes (13-11) were defeated at home by fourth ranked Pioneros (16-6) 82-76 on Saturday. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 21-11. But Jefes won second period 20-19. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Pioneros won last quarter 25-20. American power forward Justin Keenan (202-88, college: Ferris St.) stepped up and scored 22 points and 8 rebounds for the winners and the former international swingman Romel Beck (201-82, college: UNLV, agency: Interperformances) chipped in 20 points. Five Pioneros players scored in double figures. At the losing side American forward Jordan Glynn (200-89, college: SF Austin) responded with 15 points and 7 rebounds and the other American import point guard Travon Woodall (183-89, college: Pittsburgh) scored 12 points. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Pioneros have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain fourth place with 16-6 record. Jefes lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team dropped to the seventh position with 11 games lost. Pioneros will face Fuerza Regia (#6) in Monterrey in the next round. Jefes will play at home against Gigantes and hope to win that game.
