There was no surprise in Kanagawa where 6th ranked Hokkaido L. (5-20) was defeated by third ranked Toshiba Thunders (15-8) 86-73 on Sunday. The hosts trailed by 3 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 9-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 86-73. Toshiba Thunders shot 60.7 percent from the field. American forward Nick Fazekas (211-85, college: Nevada) scored 20 points and 8 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and the other American import guard Cedric Bozeman (198-83, college: UCLA) chipped in 10 points and 6 rebounds during the contest. Four Toshiba Thunders players scored in double figures. At the losing side American forward Jerome Tillman (201-87, college: Ohio, agency: KMG Sports Management) responded with 32 points and 9 rebounds and international guard Ryota Sakurai (194-83) scored 8 points. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Defending champion maintains third position with 15-8 record having two points less than leader Hitachi SR. Loser Hokkaido L. keeps the sixth place with 20 games lost. Toshiba Thunders will meet at home Tsukuba R. (#7) in the next round. Hokkaido L. will play against Toyota Alvark in Tokyo and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
