Regular Season Round 14: Scafati - Piacentina 81-73
Date: December 28, 2014
There was no surprise when 15th ranked Piacentina (4-10) was defeated on the road by twelfth ranked Scafati (6-7) 81-73. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 19-15. But Piacentina won second period 17-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. American forward Jeremy Simmons (204-89, college: Charleston, agency: Interperformances) notched a double-double by scoring 16 points and 16 rebounds to lead the effort and guard Antonio Ruggiero (190-81) supported him with 20 points. Scafati's coach Giovanni Putignano allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Even a double-double of 18 points and 13 rebounds by Lithuanian swingman Paulius Sorokas (200-92) did not help to save the game for Piacentina. Greek-Canadian guard Alex Hill (196-90, college: Cornell) added 19 points for the guests. Scafati moved-up to ninth place. Piacentina at the other side, also newcomer in the league, dropped to the bottom position with ten games lost. Scafati's next round opponent will be higher ranked Recanati (#5) on the road and it may be quite challenging game. Piacentina will play against Treviglio (#4) and hope to win that game.
