The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Hamamatsu Phoenix as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Hamamatsu Phoenix smashed 4th ranked Sendai 89ers in Mikawa 99-69. It looked good early as Sendai 89ers took an 2-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Hamamatsu Phoenix had a 29-13 second period charge getting the lead and Sendai 89ers were not able to take back game control losing it eventually 69-99. American forward Mo Charlo (203-83, college: Nevada) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 20 points, 13 rebounds and 8 assists. The former international center Atsuya Ohta (206-84) contributed with 13 points and 9 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) for the winners. Five Hamamatsu Phoenix players scored in double figures. American guard Wendell White (198-84, college: UNLV) replied with 25 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists and his fellow American import center Jeral Davis (216-84) added 8 points and 9 rebounds in the effort for Sendai 89ers. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Hamamatsu Phoenix (21-3) have an impressive 12-game winning streak. As mentioned above they took over a top position. Sendai 89ers lost third consecutive game. They keep the fourth place with nine games lost. Sendai 89ers will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest in order to get back on the winning path. Hamamatsu Phoenix will try to continue on its current victory against sixth ranked Bambitious Nara on the road.
