Regular Season Round 27: DongGuan L. - Shanxi Zh. 102-87

The game between third ranked Shanxi Zhongyu (19-8) and eighth ranked DongGuan Leopards (17-9) was the most important one in the last round on Friday night. Shanxi Zhongyu was defeated by DongGuan Leopards in DongGuan 102-87. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Shanxi Zhongyu. The game was mostly controlled by DongGuan Leopards. Shanxi Zhongyu managed to win second period 27-24. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Shanxi Zhongyu 55-39 including a 42-29 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great evening for Nigerian-American power forward Ikechukwu Diogu (204-83, college: Arizona St.) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 23 points, 25 rebounds and 4 blocks. International forward QuAn Gu (202-92) helped adding 17 points and 10 rebounds. The best for the losing side was American forward Jeremy Tyler (208-91, college: Louisville) with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 14 rebounds and the other American import guard Von Wafer (196-85, college: Florida St.) scored 15 points and 7 assists. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. DongGuan Leopards have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They maintain eighth place with 17-9 record. Shanxi Zhongyu at the other side dropped to the fourth position with eight games lost. They share it with 3 other teams. DongGuan Leopards are looking forward to face higher ranked Xinjiang Flying Tige (#6) in Urumqi in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Shanxi Zhongyu will play on the road against the league's second-placed Guandong Tigers where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
