Regular Season Round 27: Gansos - Fuerza Regia 85-90

Date: January 3, 2015
Very expected game in Ciudad de Mexico where 14th ranked Gansos (5-21) were defeated by seventh ranked Fuerza Regia (14-10) 90-85 on Saturday. The guests were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. Fuerza Regia dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Gansos' 30. They outrebounded Gansos 44-32 including 31 on the defensive glass. It was a great evening for American forward Eugene Phelps (198-90, college: Long Beach St.) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 14 rebounds. The former international guard Gabriel Giron (190-88) helped adding 23 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists (perfect behind the arc making all five shots). Five Fuerza Regia players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American swingman Brandon Davis (198-88, college: Lamar, agency: Elite Talent Exchange) with 35 points (!!!) and the other American import guard Harrison Smith (190-87, college: Texas Southern) produced a double-double by scoring 12 points and 10 rebounds. Gansos' coach Luis Andres Garcia rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Fuerza Regia moved-up to fifth place. Gansos at the other side stay dead last with 21 lost games. Fuerza Regia will meet higher ranked Soles (#4) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Gansos will play against Jefes (#7) and hope to secure a win.
