Second Stage Round 14: Shanxi - Shanghai 87-86 OT

Third ranked Shanxi Rui Flame won an overtime thriller edging second-ranked Shanghai Octopus by one point 87-86. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 20-17. But Shanghai Octopus won second period 22-21. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening, at least not yet. The game turned upside-down in the last quarter, where Shanghai Octopus used huge pressure winning it 24-16 getting a tie at the end of regular time. They lost eventually overtime period 10-11. Shanxi Rui Flame players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. International power forward XueYa Ma (190-93) saved the victory by scoring 22 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. American Maya Moore (183-89, college: Connecticut) contributed with 16 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals for the winners. Four Shanxi Rui Flame players scored in double figures. American center Sylvia Fowles (198-85, college: LSU) replied with a double-double by scoring 47 points (!!!) and 12 rebounds and center Zhangzhi Ting (193-95) added 10 points and 9 rebounds in the effort for Shanghai Octopus. Defending champion (15-6) moved-up to second place, which they share with Shanghai. Shanxi Rui Flame's next round opponent will be league's leader Beijing Great Wall on the road and it will be for sure the game of the week. Shanghai Octopus will play against Jiangsu Phoenix in Yixing and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
