There was no surprise when 13th ranked Andorra (5-9) was defeated at home by fourth ranked Real Madrid (11-4) 79-70 on Sunday. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Andorra won third quarter 21-19. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Real Madrid made 16-of-19 free shots (84.2 percent) during the game. The best player for the winners was international Rudy Fernandez (197-85) who scored 19 points. International Sergio Llull (191-87) chipped in 13 points. At the other side the best for losing team was Austrian point guard Thomas Schreiner (195-87, agency: Dynamics Global Management) who recorded 13 points and 4 assists and Bulgarian power forward Kaloyan Ivanov (205-86, agency: Beo Basket) added 13 points and 5 rebounds respectively. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Real Madrid moved-up to second place, which they share with FIATC Joventut and Bilbao Basket. Loser Andorra keeps the thirteenth position with nine games lost. Real Madrid will face Laboral Kutxa (#10) in Vitoria in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Andorra will play on the road against Asefa Estudiantes in Madrid and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
