Regular Season Round 27: Oita H.Devils - Saitama Bron. 87-101

Saitama Broncos' fans can finally celebrate the first win of their team after 23 consecutive loses. The victory is especially important as they defeated much higher ranked Oita Heat Devils (9-17) on the road game in Oita 101-87 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Saitama Broncos. Oita Heat Devils managed to win fourth quarter 29-24. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Saitama Broncos made 27-of-34 free shots (79.4 percent) during the game. Saitama Broncos outrebounded Oita Heat Devils 46-31 including a 36-22 advantage in defensive rebounds. 24 personal fouls committed by Oita Heat Devils helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a good game for Vincentian power forward Nyika Williams (203-87, college: Pacific) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 16 rebounds. Point guard Koji Nagata (180-81) contributed with 23 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. American forward Kellen Thornton (201-88, college: Tennessee St., agency: David Lee services) answered with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 11 rebounds and guard Taishiro Shimizu (183-81) added 19 points in the effort for Oita Heat Devils. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Oita Heat Devils' coach rotated ten players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Saitama Broncos maintains twelfth place with 1-23 record. Oita Heat Devils at the other side keep the seventh position with 17 games lost. Saitama Broncos are looking forward to face league's leader Akita Happinets at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Oita Heat Devils will have a break next round.
