Regular Season Round 13: Gorzow - Energa Torun 78-79

The most exciting game of round 13 in the BLK took place in Gorzow Wlkp.. This derby game ended with only one-point home defeat of 3rd placed AZS Gorzow Wielkopolski (9-4) to second ranked Energa Torun (11-2) 79-78 on Sunday evening. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of AZS Gorzow Wielkopolski. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 25-15. But AZS Gorzow Wielkopolski won second period 25-24. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Strangely AZS Gorzow Wielkopolski outrebounded Energa Torun 42-23 including a 18-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. 25 personal fouls committed by AZS Gorzow Wielkopolski helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The former international Aleksandra Pawlak (189-84, agency: Promotex) fired 15 points and 4 assists for the winners. Jamaican-American point guard Maurita Reid (172-85, college: Miami, FL) chipped in 17 points and 5 steals. Five Energa Torun players scored in double figures. American power forward Alyssia Brewer (190-90, college: UCLA) produced a double-double by scoring 35 points (!!!) and 10 rebounds and Ukrainian forward Olena Ogorodnikova (186-81) added 12 points and 7 rebounds respectively for lost side. Energa Torun have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain second place with 11-2 record having just two points less than leader Wisla Krakow. AZS Gorzow Wielkopolski at the other side dropped to the fourth position with four games lost. They share it with CCC Polkowice. Energa Torun are looking forward to face bottom-ranked Konin (#12) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game. AZS Gorzow Wielkopolski will play against Artego Bydg. (#3) in Bydgoszcz and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
