Regular Season Round 14: Virtus Acea - Granarolo BO 90-84

There was a surprise result when fourteenth ranked Acea (5-9) beat higher ranked Granarolo BO (6-8) in Roma 90-84 on Sunday. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 22-12. But Granarolo BO won second period 20-17. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Acea won last quarter 33-28. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Canadian-Nigerian forward Melvin Ejim (198-91, college: Iowa St.) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 10 rebounds. Belgian Maxime De Zeeuw (204-87) contributed with 14 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. American swingman Jeremy Hazell (195-86, college: Seton Hall) replied with 29 points and his fellow American import guard Abdul Gaddy (190-92, college: Washington) added 17 points and 4 assists in the effort for Granarolo BO. Five Acea and four Granarolo BO players scored in double figures. Acea moved-up to twelfth place, which they share with Upea CdO and OpenjobMetis V. Loser Granarolo BO keeps the ninth position with eight games lost. Acea will face higher ranked AV Cantu (#9) on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game.
