Regular Season Round 14: Cagliari CUS - Venezia 73-97
Date: January 6, 2015
Rather predictable result when fifth ranked Venezia (9-5) smashed at home 9th ranked Cagliari CUS (6-8) 97-73. The game without a history. Venezia led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Cagliari CUS's 30. American guard Shannon McCallum (177-87, college: Charlotte) notched 15 points and 6 rebounds to lead the effort and Romanian forward Simina Mandache (185-81) supported her with 16 points and 4 assists. Venezia's coach Andrea Liberalotto felt very confident using 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Even 29 points and 7 rebounds (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line) by naturalized Serbian guard Milica Micovic (182-84, agency: Players Group) did not help to save the game for Cagliari CUS. American guard Tricia Liston (185-92, college: Duke) added 17 points and 4 assists for the guests. Five Venezia and four Cagliari CUS players scored in double figures. Venezia moved-up to fourth place, which they share with San Martino. Cagliari CUS lost third consecutive game. They keep the ninth position with eight games lost. Venezia will play against San Martino (#4) in San Martino di L in the next round. Cagliari CUS will play at home against Napoli (#6) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
