Very expected game when 11th ranked Brasilia (5-9) lost at home to seventh ranked Paulistano (9-6) 94-86 on Friday. The guests were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. Paulistano made 29-of-34 free shots (85.3 percent) during the game, while Brasilia only scored twelve points from the stripe. Brasilia was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a good game for Pilar Alves (201-84) who led his team to a victory with 15 points and 7 rebounds. American guard Desmond Holloway (191-90, college: Co.Carolina) contributed with 20 points for the winners. International Guilherme Giovannoni (203-80, agency: Interperformances) answered with 17 points and 4 assists and the former international Arthur Silva (196-82) added 16 points in the effort for Brasilia. Four Brasilia players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. The victory was the third consecutive win for Paulistano. They moved-up to fifth place, which they share with S.Jose/Unimed and Vivo/Franca. Loser Brasilia keeps the eleventh position with nine games lost. Paulistano will face higher ranked Flamengo (#4) in Rio de Janeiro in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Brasilia will play at home against Mogi (#8) and hope to win that game.
