Important game to mention about took place in Athens. Eighth ranked Apollon Patras (6-6) saved a 3-point victory on the road edging 13th ranked Panionios (3-9) 71-68 on Saturday evening. Guest team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. The guests trailed by 3 points at the halftime before their 37-31 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. The best player for the winners was center Gaios Skordilis (207-87) who had a double-double by scoring 13 points and 12 rebounds. American swingman Muhammad El-Amin (196-87, college: Stony Brook, agency: KMG Sports Management) chipped in 13 points and 6 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was American William Coleman (206-88, college: Memphis) who recorded a double-double by scoring 22 points and 14 rebounds (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line) and guard Dimitris Verginis (194-87) added 17 points and 7 assists respectively. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Apollon Patras moved-up to sixth place. Loser Panionios dropped to the bottom position with nine games lost. Apollon Patras will face league's second-placed Panathinaikos in Athens in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Panionios' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Athens to the arena Nea Kifisia.
