Regular Season Round 30: Pioneros - Barreteros 85-67

No shocking result in a game in Cancun where second ranked Pioneros (21-6) defeated bottom-ranked Barreteros (5-22) 85-67 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Pioneros. Barreteros was better in fourth quarter 18-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Pioneros forced 27 Barreteros turnovers. Strangely Barreteros outrebounded Pioneros 38-25 including 25 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists. The best player for the winners was American power forward Justin Keenan (202-88, college: Ferris St.) who scored 21 points and 5 rebounds. American-Puerto Rican point guard Denis Clemente (183-86, college: Kansas St.) chipped in 10 points and 5 assists. Pioneros' coach Manuel Cintron used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the other side the best for losing team was American center Jerome Habel (208-85, college: San Diego St.) who recorded 15 points and 7 rebounds and his fellow American import center Jose Lara (203, college: CSU Bakersfield) added 10 points and 8 rebounds respectively. Pioneros have an impressive nine-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 21-6 record having just three points less than leader Halc.Rojos. Barreteros lost fifth consecutive game. Newly promoted team stay dead last with 22 lost games. Pioneros will face league's leader Halcones Rojos in Veracruz in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Barreteros will play at home against Gansos (#13) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
