Regular Season Round 16: Bilbao Basket - Valencia 82-80
Date: January 11, 2015
Not a big story in a game when 6th ranked Valencia Basket (9-7) was edged on the road by second ranked Bilbao Basket (12-4) 82-80 on Sunday. However just two-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Valencia Basket won third quarter 20-19. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Bilbao Basket won last quarter 17-16. Valencia Basket was plagued by 27 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a very good performance for the former international forward Alex Mumbru (202-79, agency: Beo Basket) who helped to win the game recording 21 points. Point guard Joaquim Colom (188-88, college: Forca Lleida, agency: Interperformances) contributed with 12 points and 6 assists for the winners. Four Bilbao Basket players scored in double figures. Belgian point guard Sam Van Rossom (188-86) replied with 19 points (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) and Serbian Vladimir Lucic (202-89, agency: Beo Basket) added 13 points in the effort for Valencia Basket. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Bilbao Basket have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 12-4 record behind leader Unicaja, which they share with Real Madrid and FIATC Joventut. Loser Valencia Basket keeps the sixth place with seven games lost. Bilbao Basket will face league's leader Unicaja Malaga on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Valencia Basket will play against Baloncesto Fuenlabrada (#16) and hope to win that game.
