Regular Season Round 14: Crocodiles - Taipans 73-78

There was no surprise in Wulguru where 7th ranked Townsville Crocodiles (7-13) were defeated by second ranked Cairns Taipans (15-6) 78-73 on Sunday. The guests trailed by 2 points at the halftime before their 44-37 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Cairns Taipans made 16-of-20 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game. The best player for the winners was the former international power forward Matthew Burston (211-82) who had a double-double by scoring 16 points and 15 rebounds. American guard Scottie Wilbekin (188-92, college: Florida) chipped in 12 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. The former international guard Steve Markovic (190-85) produced 20 points and 7 assists and American forward Brian Conklin (198-89, college: St.Louis) added 22 points respectively for the hosts. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Cairns Taipans have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 15-6 record behind leader Breakers. Townsville Crocodiles at the other side keep the seventh place with 13 games lost. Cairns Taipans will face Kings (#6) in Sydney in the next round. Townsville Crocodiles will play at home against Kings and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
