Regular Season Round 15: Hapoel T-A - Maccabi Haifa 79-72

Date: January 11, 2015
No shocking result in a game when sixth ranked Hapoel Tel-Aviv (9-6) beat at home 8th ranked Maccabi Haifa (6-9) 79-72 on Sunday. Maccabi Haifa trailed by 11 points after 3 quarters before a 30-26 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 72-79 at the end of the game. Hapoel Tel-Aviv made 30-of-35 free shots (85.7 percent) during the game, while Maccabi Haifa only scored thirteen points from the stripe. Maccabi Haifa was plagued by 27 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a good game for American-Jamaican swingman Durand Scott (196-90, college: Miami, FL) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 rebounds. American power forward Yancy Gates (206-89, college: Cincinnati) contributed with 19 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Hapoel Tel-Aviv's coach Oded Katash used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. American-Nigerian Ike Ofoegbu (205-84, college: SMU) answered with 26 points and 9 rebounds and American swingman William Graves (198-88, college: N.Carolina) added 23 points in the effort for Maccabi Haifa. Hapoel Tel-Aviv moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Maccabi Rishon and Hapoel Holon. Loser Maccabi Haifa dropped to the seventh position with nine games lost. Hapoel Tel-Aviv will face Galil Gilboa (#9) in Rosh Pina in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Maccabi Haifa will play at home against Ironi Nes-Ziona and hope to win that game.
