Regular Season Round 16: Basquete Cearense - Mogi das Cruzes 80-91

Very predictable result in Aldeota where seventh ranked Mogi (10-6) defeated 14th ranked SKY/Basquete (3-12) 91-80 on Wednesday. The guests trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 3-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 91-80. They outrebounded SKY/Basquete 37-25 including 30 on the defensive glass. Worth to mention a great performance of American forward Tyrone Curnell (203-88, college: Valdosta St.) who helped to win the game recording 20 points and 5 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) and forward Gerson Santo (206-91, college: Colorado St.) who added 10 points and 10 rebounds during the contest. Five Mogi players scored in double figures. At the losing side Andrezao de Sousa (198-90) responded with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 11 rebounds and the former international point guard David Rossetto (180-93) scored 13 points. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Mogi have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Vivo/Franca. Loser SKY/Basquete keeps the fourteenth position with 12 games lost. Mogi will face higher ranked Minas (#3) in Belo Horizonte in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. SKY/Basquete will play at home against the league's second-placed Paschoalotto/Bauru (#2) and hope to win that game.
