Regular Season Round 16: Flamengo - Paulistano 97-81
Date: January 15, 2015
No shocking result in a game in Rio de Janeiro where fourth ranked Flamengo (10-5) won against 7th ranked Paulistano (9-8) 97-81 on Thursday. The hosts trailed by 3 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 1-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 97-81. Flamengo made 20-of-21 free shots (95.2 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international Marcelo Machado (201-75, agency: Interperformances) who helped to win the game recording 23 points and 4 assists and Argentinian point guard Nicolas Laprovittola (193-90) who added 14 points, 6 rebounds and 9 assists during the contest. At the losing side American point guard Kenny Dawkins (175-87, college: Lamar) responded with 14 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists and Pilar Alves (201-84) scored 10 points and 6 rebounds. Four Flamengo and five Paulistano players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Defending champion maintains fourth position with 10-5 record. Loser Paulistano dropped to the eighth place with eight games lost. Flamengo will face bottom-ranked Liga Sorocaba (#16) in Sorocabana in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Paulistano will play on the road against Macae (#11) and hope to win that game.
