Regular Season Round 14: Northland - Akropol 107-61

Second ranked Northland (13-1) crushed at home 10th ranked Akropol (3-11) by 46 points 107-61, which is the biggest margin this round. It looked good early as Akropol took an 2-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Northland had a 27-16 second period charge getting the lead and Akropol was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 61-107. Northland dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Akropol's 36 and made 18-of-21 charity shots (85.7 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Akropol 49-20 including a 35-14 advantage in defensive rebounds. Northland players were unselfish on offense dishing 31 assists comparing to just 13 passes made by Akropol's players. Canadian point guard Miah-Marie Langlois (173-91) notched a double-double by scoring 17 points, 7 rebounds and 10 assists to lead the effort and the former international guard Martina Stalvant (176-89, agency: Two Points) supported her with 21 points. Five Northland players scored in double figures. Northland's coach Jens Tillman felt very confident using 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Even 21 points by Maria Melkon (-89) did not help to save the game for Akropol. The former international forward Cecilia Ferm (178-75) added 12 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists for the guests. Northland have an impressive five-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains second position with 13-1 record having just -1 point less than leader Umea. Akropol lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the tenth place with 11 games lost. Northland will play against Sallen (#3) in Uppsala in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Akropol will play at home against Visby Ladies (#9) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
