Regular Season Round 18: Leiden - Leeuwarden 94-83

There was no surprise when 6th ranked Leeuwarden (4-10) was defeated on the road by second ranked Leiden (12-4) 94-83. Leiden players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. It was a good game for international Worthy de Jong (194-88) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 20 points, 10 rebounds and 9 assists. The former international Rogier Jansen (188-84, agency: Court Side) contributed with 21 points and 5 assists for the winners. American Marquise Simmons (203-89, college: St.Bonaventure) replied with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 10 rebounds and his fellow American import power forward Ryan Watkins (206-91, college: Boise St.) added 21 points and 6 rebounds (went 9 for 9 at the free throw line !!!) in the effort for Leeuwarden. Five Leiden and four Leeuwarden players scored in double figures. Leiden maintains second position with 12-4 record having just -2 point less than leader Den Bosch. Leeuwarden at the other side keeps the sixth place with ten games lost. Leiden will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Leeuwarden will play at home against Weert (#7) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
