Regular Season Round 16: Trefl Sopot - MKS DG 84-87

A very interesting game took place in Sopot. It ended with only three-point home defeat of higher ranked Trefl (9-7) to eleventh ranked MKS Dabrowa Gornicza (6-10) 87-84 on Saturday evening. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Trefl. It looked good early as Trefl took an 12-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then MKS Dabrowa Gornicza took control and eventually winning the game that evening by 3 points. They made 19-of-25 charity shots (76.0 percent) during the game. MKS Dabrowa Gornicza forced 20 Trefl turnovers. Strangely Trefl outrebounded MKS Dabrowa Gornicza 39-22 including 29 on the defensive glass. 25 personal fouls committed by Trefl helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. American Myles McKay (193-86, college: Wisc.-Whitewater) fired 35 points (!!!) for the winners. The other American import point guard Ken Brown (180-89, college: Philander Smith, agency: Octagon Europe) chipped in 21 points. McKay is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Lithuanian center Tautvydas Lydeka (208-83) produced a double-double by scoring 15 points and 17 rebounds and the former international power forward Pawel Leonczyk (202-86) added 16 points and 8 rebounds respectively for lost side. Five Trefl players scored in double figures. Trefl's coach let to play ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Newly promoted MKS Dabrowa Gornicza maintains eleventh position with 6-10 record. Trefl at the other side dropped to the seventh place with seven games lost. MKS Dabrowa Gornicza's next round opponent will be league's second-placed Stelmet in Zielona Gora and they do not belong to the favorites in that game.
