There was an upset when second-ranked Iwate Big Bulls (22-5) were defeated on the road by ninth ranked Fukushima (9-18) 79-74 on Saturday. The hosts trailed by 1 point at the halftime before their 46-40 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Fukushima outrebounded Iwate Big Bulls 40-25 including 26 on the defensive glass. The game was also dominated by American players. The best player for the winners was guard Verdell Jones III (195-89, college: Indiana) who scored 25 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists. Forward Terrance Shannon (203-90, college: VCU) chipped in a double-double by scoring 15 points and 14 rebounds. Forward Scootie Randall (198-90, college: Temple) produced 27 points and 6 rebounds and swingman Wayne Arnold (193-84, college: Tennessee St.) added 17 points and 6 rebounds respectively for the guests. Fukushima moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Oita H.Devils and Bambitious Nara. Loser Iwate Big Bulls keep the second position with five games lost. Fukushima will face again league's second-placed Iwate Big Bulls at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
