Seventh-ranked Weert (2-13) made lots of trouble for fourth ranked Groningen (11-4) on Saturday. The visitors from Groningen managed to secure only three-point victory 67-64. However their fans expected easier game. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 22-8. But Weert won second period 21-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Groningen won last quarter 20-18. Groningen outrebounded Weert 42-25 including 29 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was American guard DeJuan Wright (190-88, college: FIU, agency: Court Side) who scored 21 points and 8 rebounds. The former international forward Craig Osaikhwuwuomwan (211-90) chipped in 8 points and 12 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was the former international center Kenneth van Kempen (207-87, college: Ohio, agency: Court Side) who recorded a double-double by scoring 18 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) and power forward Joost Padberg (202-91, agency: R.H.Consultancy) added 19 points and 6 rebounds respectively. Groningen have a solid four-game winning streak. Defending champion moved-up to third place. Weert lost third consecutive game. They keep the seventh position with 13 games lost. Groningen are looking forward to face Amsterdam (#8) at home in the next round where they are favorite. Weert will play against Leeuwarden and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
