Regular Season Round 15: Gran Canaria - Rivas Ecopolis 79-49

We should mention about the upset which took place in Las Palmas, where higher ranked Rivas Ecopolis (6-9) was outleveled in a road game by eleventh ranked Gran Canaria (5-10) 79-49 on Saturday. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Rivas Ecopolis. The game was mostly controlled by Gran Canaria. Rivas Ecopolis was better in fourth quarter 15-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Rivas Ecopolis 47-26 including a 38-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was American guard Robyn Parks (183-92, college: VCU) who scored 22 points and 7 rebounds. Her fellow American import forward Samarie Walker (185, college: Kentucky) chipped in 8 points, 19 rebounds and 4 blocks. At the other side the best for losing team was guard Angela Salvadores (178-97) who recorded 12 points and American forward Lyndra Weaver (185-87, college: Virginia, agency: Regeneracom Sports) added 4 points and 6 rebounds respectively. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Gran Canaria moved-up to tenth place, which they share with Gipuzkoa UPV. Defending champion Rivas Ecopolis keeps the seventh position with nine games lost. Gran Canaria will face higher ranked Universitario de Ferrol (#9) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
