Regular Season Round 13: Olympiakos - Athinaikos 62-60

A very interesting game took place in Athens. It ended with only two-point defeat on the road of 8th ranked Athinaikos (3-11) to ninth ranked Olympiakos (3-11) 62-60 in the fight for the eighth place. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Athinaikos won third quarter 15-14. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Olympiakos forced 23 Athinaikos turnovers. Strangely Athinaikos outrebounded Olympiakos 45-32 including 32 on the defensive glass. The former international forward Niki Zerva (184-79) nailed a double-double by scoring 12 points, 14 rebounds and 4 assists for the winning side and forward Eytixi Deligianni (183-84) accounted for 22 points and 5 rebounds. American power forward Diana Delva (188-88, college: Hartford) came up with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 13 rebounds and guard Afedoula Magaliou (168-79) added 9 points and 8 rebounds respectively for Athinaikos in the defeat. Olympiakos moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Athinaikos and Panathlitikos. Olympiakos' next round opponent will be higher ranked Ippokratis (#6) and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
